School Development Plan (SDP)
Every year, in consultation with Governors, staff and families we write a new school development plan to ensure we are constantly meeting the needs of our school community.
Here is a snapshot of the priorities for this academic year. If you require any further information, please contact the school office
Quality of Education:
1. 1. In line with the local authority improvement target for school attendance, Palmerston will continue to improve attendance with a focus on involving parents/carers and stakeholders on PA and SA pupils.
2. 2. Evaluate and assess the outcomes for pupils in the Pre-formal base in terms of MOVE, access to sets, therapies and external professionals.
3. Monitor, evaluate and report on ‘ready to learn’ activities sharing good practice and ideas for specific groups/individuals.
Behaviours and attitudes:
4. 3. Evaluate how the schools THRIVE Champions are working across the school and their impact on pupils engagement/interaction and behaviour.
5. 4. Research alternative training for staff to include restraint holds and consider writing Palmerston specific behaviour support guide to include proactive intervention strategies and de-escalation techniques.
6. 5. Create an anti-bullying team from a range of pupils throughout the school/college to support the curriculum and positive interactions.
Personal Development:
7. 6. Increase staff awareness/training and support for pupils with HI/VI and implement the work of the VI Champion in school.
8. 7. All teachers, HLTA’s and cover supervisors to receive SCERTs training and introduce/implement into the curriculum for those pupils who need additional social communication support.
9. 8. Monitor and review impact of CIAG across school with a particular focus on 14-19 pupils and supporting independent advice and guidance. Link with recent OFSTED findings.
Leadership and Management:
10 9. Establish Communication leads to work across all areas of the school/college to ensure all pupils have access to effective and meaningful communication systems. This is to be linked to SALT where appropriate.
11 10. Introduce peer mentoring, observations and moderation for all staff to support their own professional development and learn from highly skilled practitioners.
12 11. In light of 3 highly skilled and experienced subject leaders leaving in July, review all of the subject leads roles and responsibilities and recruit/adjust roles accordingly to ensure maximum coverage and impact on pupils learning.
Post 16 provision –
13 12. Ensure the new college provision and resources (indoor and outdoor) are effective in meeting the needs of all learners.
14 13. Complete the Preparing for Adulthood Audit and produce an action plan that highlights areas that need developing/adjusting to support all learners.
Continuation from last year – on-going:
Continue to improve standards by increasing the use of phonics and colourful semantics to support pupils writing and reading through cross-curricular subjects where appropriate.
There is one employee at Palmerston who currently earns over 100k
